Medication Management Program Expands to MetroWest
VNA Care Network recently expanded its free Medication Management Program for seniors and their caregivers to 14 MetroWest communities thanks to a grant from BayPath Elder Services.
"The majority of seniors are juggling five or more medications every day. This grant allows us to help seniors take their medications safely and effectively by providing information about the drugs and any precautions that should be taken; drug interactions and the effects of over-the-counter drugs, vitamins and herbal remedies; and how to organize medications and make them easier to manage," said Maureen Sendrowski, RN, MPH, preventive health program manager for VNA Care Network.
Seniors or family caregivers may receive free support through group education sessions and "Brown Bag" Medication Management clinics (upcoming programs).
VNA Care Network began offering the Medication Management Program more than two years ago and now provides free educational opportunities in nearly 100 communities in Central Massachusetts, the North Shore, MetroWest and Dedham areas.
The expansion of the program was made possible by funding from BayPath Elder Services, the Executive Office of Elder Affairs with Title III funds from the Older American's Act, and VNA Care Network. It is open to persons age 60 and over and family members or other caregivers who assist in the senior's medications. Towns served through the BayPath grant are Ashland, Dover, Framingham, Holliston, Hopkinton, Hudson, Marlborough, Natick, Northborough, Sherborn, Southborough, Sudbury, Wayland and Westborough.
