Maximize the effectiveness of your medications and avoid adverse reactions by following these tips from VNA Care Network & Hospice's Wellness staff.
Make a list of the prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements that you use, and review this list with your doctor at least twice a year. No time to write a list? Put everything in a bag and bring it to your doctor's appointment.
Fill all of your prescriptions at the same pharmacy. The pharmacist can keep track of your medications and alert you and your doctor about any potential interactions.
Always read the instructions and warning labels to make sure you are taking medications properly.
Notify your doctor immediately if you are having a side effect. Never assume the side effect is part of aging. Your doctor may adjust the medication dose or tell you to stop taking the medication immediately.
Ask questions during your doctor's appointment. Write down the answers immediately to help you remember. Consider bringing a friend or relative to your appointment to take notes for you.
