Joint Commission Awards Accreditation
VNA Care Network recently achieved accreditation from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.
Founded in 1951, the Joint Commission is dedicated to continuously improving the safety and quality of the nation's health care through voluntary accreditation. VNA Care Network, which provides home health care, hospice and wellness services to residents of Eastern and Central Massachusetts, received the accreditation award after the Joint Commission found that it had demonstrated compliance with the Joint Commission's national standards. The accreditation process included an on-site survey in September 2001.
"In becoming accredited, VNA Care Network was evaluated against a set of national standards by a Joint Commission team of surveyors experienced in the delivery of home health care and hospice services," said Maryanne Popovich, RN, MPH, executive director, Home Care Program, Joint Commission. "Achieving accreditation demonstrates VNA Care Network's commitment to provide high quality care to its patients."
Barbara Brooks, vice president of clinical services for VNA Care Network, said accreditation shows that "we make a significant investment in quality on a day-to-day basis. We sought accreditation for our organization because we want to be the best and we view obtaining Joint Commission accreditation as another step toward excellence."
She notes that accreditation is attainable only through the cooperation and communication among staff members. "Everyone here at VNA Care Network plays a valuable role in working to meet the standards. Employees also appreciate the educational aspect of the survey and the opportunity to interact with the Joint Commission team," said Brooks.
