Michael E. Morris Elected Chair of Foundation Board of Directors
VNA Care Network & Hospice recently welcomed Michael E. Morris as chair of the VNA Care Network Foundation board of directors.
Morris brings many years of experience in health care to this role guiding the agency's nonprofit mission of caring. VNA Care Network & Hospice's home health care services allow individuals to cope with illness and injury while remaining in their own homes. Hospice for the terminally ill is provided in patients' homes, nursing homes and other facilities, and VNA Care Network & Hospice's residences (Chilton House, Cambridge; Tippett Home, Needham; and the Rose Monahan Hospice Home, Worcester) and inpatient hospice at the Monahan Home. Wellness programs include flu immunization clinics, cultural competency, and workplace health screenings and education.
Morris is director of network services for New England for Aetna Health Inc. Previous roles in health care include senior network manager for Aetna, network manager for US Healthcare, vice president of operations at Addison Gilbert Hospital in Gloucester, and assistant administrator and chief financial officer at Hunt Memorial Hospital in Danvers.
Morris first discovered the importance of home-based health care more than 20 years ago when a nurse from VNA North Shore, now part of VNA Care Network & Hospice, cared for his grandmother. The visits made such a difference in his family's life that he still remembers the nurse by name.
"It's an enormous comfort to know that someone will come into surroundings that are familiar to the patient," said Morris.
Morris has been a longtime member of the board and served as first vice chair of the Foundation prior to being elected chair. He holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Salem State College and an MBA from Boston University.
