VNA Care Network was recently named the exclusive provider of personal emergency response systems for Fallon Community Health Plan's nearly 200,000 members in Massachusetts.
"VNA Care Network's Health Watch Program gives people a direct line to help in an emergency," said Carol Potter, Health Watch manager. "It's been used by seniors who live independently, but don't want to worry about how they'd contact an ambulance if they fall or telephone the police if they suspect a burglar is trying to enter their home. People coping with a long-term illness and even children who are home alone after school can feel safe with Health Watch."
The client wears a small device called a personal transmitter on a neckband, wristband, or belt-clip. If they need help, they just press a button. A signal is sent over standard telephone lines to a response center staffed 24 hours a day.
Health Watch has the client's name, address, health profile, emergency and non-emergency contact names and phone numbers, and other important information in a database. The Health Watch system also includes a help console with a speaker so Health Watch monitoring staff and the client can talk to each other. Response center staff arrange emergency and non-emergency assistance. A pillow/body switch and breath assist devices are available for those who can't use the button-activated personal transmitter.
VNA Care Network offers Health Watch to residents of Eastern and Central Massachusetts. The Health Watch contract with Fallon Community Health Plan gives members special discounts.
