VNA Care Network recently received a grant for nearly $10,000 from the George C. Wadleigh Foundation in support of the agency's health clinics for the homeless in Haverhill.
"Because of the Wadleigh Foundation's generous support over the past decade, we've been able to provide important preventive health care to many people with no where else to turn," said Susan Hamilton, wellness director for VNA Care Network.
The free clinics are run by a registered nurse from VNA Care Network and include health assessments; blood pressure screening; pulse, heart, and lung monitoring; blood sugar screening for diabetes; medication and diet consultation; and referrals for follow-up of health problems. Flu shots are provided in the fall and other health screenings and educational programs are offered at various times throughout the year.
The George C. Wadleigh Foundation supports nonprofit organizations in Greater Haverhill that provide direct care to homeless individuals.
