VNA Care Network & Hospice raised more than $10,000 in support of the Campaign for the Tippett Home during a recent reception and silent auction at the Needham Historical Society.

VNA Care Network & Hospice opened the Stanley R. Tippett Home in 1994 to provide compassionate end-of-life care in homelike surroundings. Patients and their loved ones receive emotional, spiritual, physical, and practical support to help them live as fully as possible.

The residence was originally built in 1908 and has undergone only moderate updates in the past century. The Campaign for the Tippett Home aims to raise $2 million for major renovations and repairs to ensure the home’s future.

Laura Zigman, author of the national bestseller Animal Husbandry and contributor to The New York Times and The Huffington Post, spoke to the nearly 100 attendees about the “amazing care” her family received at the Tippett Home. Three generations gathered at the residence to be with Laura’s mother, Bernice, who had pancreatic cancer. (Read or watch a video about their experience.)

“Your sense of relief is an enormous thing because your loved one is comfortable … and your family is all together,” said Laura.

Susan Young, director fund development, said, “We’re fortunate to have so many generous neighbors helping us work towards the $2 million goal. Every gift will enable us to care for local residents during their end-of-life journey.”

The benefit committee was co-chaired by Needham resident Sally Toran and Wellesley resident Suzanne Skolnick. They were joined on the committee by Needham residents Alison and Peter Atallah, Mary and Gerald Corcoran, Gloria and Michael Greis, Maureen and Ron McCaffrey, MaryBeth and Jack Piersiak, Pam and Mike Piersiak, Cathy and John Romeo, Mary Ellen and Dave Stevenson, and Richard Toran and Wellesley resident Bob Skolnick.
