Renovations are under way at Chilton House, a hospice home in Cambridge for the terminally ill, and are expected to be completed later this year.

The former two-family home has been completely gutted and structural elements repaired and strengthened. Rooms are beginning to take shape, with frames in place for the kitchen, bathrooms, dining room, two of the five bedrooms, some of the closets, and nurses stations. Some of the new windows and drain piping have also been installed. View photos of the progress.

Geothermal wells are being drilled for the heating/cooling system. John Brodrick, coordinator of administrative services, said the crew "hit more water than expected. The existence of this water is great for the heat transfer when the system is operational. They unexpectedly hit bedrock at a shallow depth of 60 feet — a good thing since less steel pipe casing is needed."

Excavation will soon begin for the addition and elevator shaft foundation.
