Chilton House
When caring for your terminally ill loved one at home is no longer an option, VNA Care Network & Hospice's Chilton House in Cambridge, Massachusetts, provides a homelike place for patients to live and receive hospice care.
SETTING
Chilton House was the first hospice home in Massachusetts, established in 1991 by the former Hospice of Cambridge.
The residence is located on a quiet street in Cambridge's Fresh Pond neighborhood. The converted
two-family home serves up to four individuals in private rooms. (Take a virtual tour.)
Staff foster a warm, supportive environment, and nurses are on site around the clock. Chilton House gives patients flexibility in their routine and personal living space.
Bedrooms are equipped with an electric hospital bed, cable television and remote control, nurse's call bell, telephone, dresser, closet, and sink. The bathroom and shower are shared. Residents may bring photos, momentos, small pieces of furniture, and other personal items that fit comfortably and safely in the room.
The home features a common living room overlooking a garden, which is in bloom from spring through fall and attracts a wide variety of birds. The house is decorated with paintings and drawings by local artists. College musicians periodically drop by the home to perform the classics and seasonal tunes.
Families, friends, and other guests may visit as often as they like. Although there are no set visiting hours, guests are asked to respect the privacy and comfort of the other residents.
