Cathy Romeo, Cultural Competency Program Manager

Cathy Romeo, Cultural Competency Program manager for VNA Care Network & Hospice, has extensive experience in community health education and prevention programs and providing services to diverse communities. As a certified cultural competency trainer, Cathy leads workshops based on the award-winning curriculum, Communicating Across Boundaries.

Cathy's background includes national public speaking, program administration, education, and counseling. She won several national awards as the director of the federally funded Catch the Hope program, providing perinatal health services, education, and case management to pregnant and postpartum inmates at the Massachusetts state prison for women, where she worked intensively with diverse clients.

While serving as VNA Care Network's MetroWest Regional Coordinator for the Women's Health Network, Cathy was honored by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health in 2001 with the SHERO Award for Women Leaders in Health Care.

She is the co-author of Ended Beginnings, Healing Childbearing Losses, currently in its ninth printing, and a chapter author and editor of Our Bodies, Ourselves, as well as author of numerous articles in a variety of journals and publications.

Cathy has provided holistic individual counseling for parents recovering from childbearing loss and in-service training workshops for health care and human service providers whose patients and clients experience loss.

Cathy is an honors graduate of Suffolk University's Health and Human Services Management Certificate Program. She has trained over 2,000 health and human service providers in the Communicating Across Boundaries approach to improving cultural competency.
